Activities

Since the founding of The Maple Dragon Multicultural Society, we have performed various forms of voluntary community activities, including the following:

There was an earthquake in Sichuan, China in April.  Our Society held a fundraising dinner on April 26, 2013 to raise funds for the victims in Sichuan, China. We donated all raised fund totalling CA$4,300 to Sichuan through the Consulate of China in Toronto ( Click here to see photos for the fundraising dinner on April 26, 2013).

Dragon Boat Festival in Toronto, Canada is a famous event in the world. This year, Maple Dragon has also provided a dragon boat to participate in dragon boat race in the Central Island and we won the first place in the 2,000 metre event ( Click here to see Toronto Dragon Boat Race 2013 photos ).

The mayor in Gravenhurst has written a letter to support us to hold Bethune events in Gravenhurst, Ontario. In the near future, our Society will implement a series of activities in Gravenhurst to promote Bethune’s selfless spirit of fraternity and to thank Dr. Norman Bethune’s help and contributions to China.

A. National Day Parade: from the west of Canada, Vancouver to the middle of Canada, Calgary, Ontario’s Toronto, Markham, Mississauga, Ottawa, Vaughan and Halifax.

B. Charitable activities: Toronto Community Chest parade, St. Peter’s Home for the Aged, the Ontario Jockey Club Charities competition, small Lisa charity gala, etc.

C. Community activities: Ontario Dragon and Lion Dance Day Parade, Toronto first night market, Ontario South Queens elementary school, Ontario Warden Community English School, Toronto Caribbean Festival, Queen Street ‘Festival, World Dragon and Lion Dance Conference performances.

D. International Activities

a. After 911, we have participated in New York’s "I Love New York" General Assembly for a month.
b. Activities to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and Vietnam.

E. Participated in domestic activities
(1) National Unity Activities
In support of national unity and oppose Quebec’s independence movement at Queen’s Park in year 1995. In year 1997, Wai Tong flied with a maple leaf dragon from Toronto to Calgary to participate in the national unity meeting. He obtained support from the parliament members and take pictures to mark the event.
(2) Community Activities

F. Foreign participation in overseas activities
(1) In January 1997, participated in the Lion Dance festival organized by the urban council of Hong Martial Arts Association of Hong Kong to promote the culture and sport of Canada.

(2) In December 1997, promoted Canadian culture and sports in Wuyi University in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, China, Huan Sheng secondary school and Hirayama primary school in Xinhui City and participated in various school art exhibition permitted by the Education Department and Jiangmen Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee. The contents
of the exhibition are as follows:
a. Economic introduction: aviation, automotive plants, tourism, publishing, financial.
b. Canada specialty: Ginseng, maple syrup, pulp, wood, ice wine.
c. Calgary farming products: wheat, frozen meat.
d. Toronto life and travel, landscapes, etc.
e. Canadian education, the universities admission requirement, tuition fee, etc.
f. North America Canada sports, hockey, softball, football, etc., and taught students
how to operate the sports in the field.
g. Explain to let students know how Maple Leaf Dragon, being the combination of sports culture, national structure and multicultural in Canada, promoted and cooperated the championship of multicultural harmony campaign through Dragon morphology.

(3) "Wishing Boat" visited disaster area in Chengdu, Chongqing, China on November 4, 2008. "Wishing Boat" visited the Lam Tsuen World Wish Centre of Hong Kong on November 20th, 2008.

G. In addition, the performing arts such as symphonic music, chess, calligraphy, painting exhibitions and other activities will be implemented by The Canada Maple Dragon Multi-Cultures Society in the near future.
