The Canada Maple Dragon Multicultural Society
Within Chinese culture, worship of this legendary symbol can be described as innate, since the presence of the dragon is integral to numerous national traditions including architecture, costumes, festivals, cuisine, folklore, and even language. Follow the footsteps of the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation, and it is apparent that the symbolic significance of the dragon transcends both time and space. It can even be said that the history of Chinese immigration overseas is synonymous with the development of the Chinese dragon culture.
In January 2011, several hundred overseas Chinese immigrants were invited to participate in the 10th session and 4th meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), in Zhejiang Province. During this meeting, the central idea of focus and discussion was "Chinese Culture and Education". The future of Chinese culture amongst second and third generations of overseas immigrants is of grave concern amongst the CPPCC. To ensure its survival, it was proposed that we must work on honouring Eastern traditions and customs internationally. This will help to prevent further cultural decline in the future, especially within Canada. Canada is a Western country that has relatively more overseas Chinese than any other nation, and therefore it was suggested to focus on carrying forward the Chinese dragon culture so as to effectively establish solidarity amongst Chinese people at home and abroad.
